Ham Companion Pro is designed to work without advertising, behavioral tracking, or an in-app account. This policy explains what information the app uses, why it uses it, and the choices available to you.
Email addresses previously provided for launch notifications
This section covers hamcompanionpro.com itself, separate from the app. If you previously entered your email address on this website to be notified when Ham Companion Pro launched, that address is stored only for that purpose. It is not sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising or tracking.
You may ask to have your email address removed at any time by contacting support@hamcompanionpro.com.
Information you choose to provide
The operator profile can store your name, amateur-radio call sign, license status and class, country or region, licensing authority, Maidenhead grid square, and QTH description. These fields personalize the app and support location-dependent amateur-radio tools. Optional fields may be left blank.
The app also stores Morse-learning information, including completed lessons, scores, attempts, sessions, accuracy, and missed-character counts. It stores preferences such as CW speed, effective speed, pitch, practice goal, and keying settings.
Storage and iCloud synchronization
Profile and learning-progress information is stored on your device. When iCloud is available for your Apple Account, the app uses Apple’s iCloud key-value service to keep your operator profile and learning progress consistent across your Apple devices. Apple processes that synchronized information as the iCloud service provider. App preferences and temporary space-weather caches are currently stored locally.
You can clear the operator profile or reset learning progress from Settings. These deletions synchronize to participating devices so older copies do not restore the deleted data.
Location and QTH suggestions
QTH is the amateur-radio term for your station location. It is saved as a description such as City, State/Region, Country.
The app requests location only after you tap Use My Location for Grid & QTH. It calculates the Maidenhead grid square on your device. To suggest a QTH in the format City, State/Region, Country, it sends the coordinate to Apple’s reverse-geocoding service.
If you tap Suggest QTH from Grid Square, the app calculates the center coordinate of the entered grid square and sends that approximate coordinate to Apple’s reverse-geocoding service. A grid-derived result is approximate. The app asks for confirmation before saving a suggestion and does not store raw latitude or longitude in your profile. You may deny location access and enter information manually.
Microphone and speech recognition
The optional voice-answer feature accesses the microphone only while you press and hold its voice button. Audio is used to recognize a short spoken answer and is not retained by Ham Companion Pro. The app requests on-device recognition when supported. Apple’s speech service may process speech when on-device recognition is unavailable. You may deny these permissions and use touch, keyboard, paddle, or straight-key input instead.
Online information services
The app downloads public space-weather information from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and public satellite orbital elements from CelesTrak. These requests do not intentionally include your operator profile or learning progress. As with ordinary internet requests, service operators may receive technical information such as an IP address under their own policies.
When you enter a complete POTA park reference in the POTA Activation Assistant, the app sends that reference to the official Parks on the Air public information service to retrieve public park details. Park lookups do not intentionally include your operator profile, QSO log, or learning progress.
Links in the educational library may open third-party websites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
POTA Activation Assistant and ADIF export
The POTA Activation Assistant can maintain a working activation log containing information you enter, such as park details, station call sign and grid square, contacted call signs, UTC date and time, band, mode, optional frequency, signal reports, first name, park-to-park reference, and notes. This working log is stored locally on the device and is not synchronized through iCloud or automatically uploaded to Parks on the Air.
You choose when to export the log as an ADIF file and where to share or save that file. Ham Companion Pro never asks for, stores, or transmits your Parks on the Air password. Uploading an exported ADIF file to Parks on the Air remains an action you perform through the official POTA website.
Tracking, advertising, and analytics
Ham Companion Pro does not contain advertising, sell personal information, track users across other companies’ apps or websites, or currently use an analytics or crash-reporting service.
Data retention and control
Profile, progress, and preferences remain until you edit or delete them, reset the relevant data, remove the app’s data, or manage the associated information through your Apple Account and iCloud controls. Temporary downloaded data may be replaced when newer information is fetched.
Children
Ham Companion Pro is a general-audience amateur-radio education and utility app. It does not knowingly solicit personal information from children. Optional profile fields can be left blank.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the app’s features or service providers change. The effective date above identifies the latest version.
